KUALA LUMPUR: Iconic Worldwide Bhd, through wholly-owned subsidiary Iconic Medicare Sdn Bhd, has received the approval to market and sell nitrile examination powder-free gloves throughout the United States.
Iconic Medicare obtained the 510(k) premarket notification clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Dec 14, according to the Bursa Malaysia-listed tourism player, which last year diversified into the manufacture of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Managing director Datuk Tan Kean Tet said the approval was timely as the group had just started operations of its new PPE manufacturing facility for gloves and medical face masks in Batu Kawan, Penang.
“Our aim is to manufacture at least 5% of the global glove demand within five years, targeting export markets such as the US and Europe,” he said in a statement.Iconic Gloves display
According to the Malaysian Rubber Glove Manufacturers Association, the global demand for gloves is expected to hit 420 billion pieces next year.
The group has also obtained CE (European Conformity) and International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) certifications for its nitrile gloves and medical face masks, allowing it to export its products worldwide.
“In the third and fourth quarters of the current financial year (ending March 31, 2022), we will ship out 500 million pieces of rubber gloves to the US, Europe, Africa, Middle-East and South-East Asia.
“This will be in time for us to materialise it in our financial year 2022 accounts,” Tan said.
The construction of the RM200mil PPE manufacturing facility was completed on Nov 9, 2021. It has started running six double-former glove dipping lines and by February 2022, 12 double-former glove dipping lines and 20 medical face mask production lines are expected to be installed and commissioned. — Bernama
